Before you print
PPI and DPI
PPI is the number of image pixels printed per inch. DPI is a printer setting. Changing DPI alone does not add detail to your image.
Print width = pixel width ÷ PPI
Transparent borders
The measurement includes empty space around the drawing. Crop the image first if the artwork itself needs to match an exact size.
Print at 100%
Choose Actual size or 100% in the print dialog. Fit to page will resize the image. Print one copy and measure it before making more.
Calculation details and sources
Height follows the original width-to-height ratio. Paper fit subtracts the selected margin from all four sides. The largest fit uses whichever limit—width or height—is reached first. Measurements are calculated before display rounding.
One inch equals exactly 25.4 mm. A4 is 210 × 297 mm, A5 is 148 × 210 mm and A3 is 297 × 420 mm. US Letter is 8.5 × 11 inches. A margin of zero only checks page geometry; it does not mean your printer supports borderless printing.
300 PPI is a common reference for detailed prints viewed closely, not a universal pass/fail rule. Ask your print provider about its requirements. This calculator is for raster images; a PDF can contain vector artwork, raster artwork or both.
